Photograph of the week: The view from Out of Africa

This is the kopje (rocky outcrop) from where many of the key scenes in the blockbuster film Out of Africa were filmed some 30 years ago. Whilst the location was used to recreate the romantic Ngong Hills scenes the actual setting is on the edge of the Great Rift Valley escarpment with incredible views of the Maasai Mara stretching out for miles beyond. In fact, 300 meters directly below the Mara Triangle, an area of the greater Maasai Mara cut off by the Mara River that can just be seen in the distance and one that teams with wildlife due to its remoteness.
