If you’ve ever dreamed of hanging out with polar bears beneath the Northern Lights, then this competition, launched by Finish Air and Visit Finland, could be for you.

The competition called “100 Days of Polar Night Magic” is giving three or four lucky adventurers the chance to explore northern Finland during the heart of winter, which lasts 100 days.

Information about the competition, on the Visit Finland website, explains that it is “impossible” to experience all the aspects of this magical part of the world during a short time. Instead it is offering true outdoor enthusiast the chance to experience an artic adventure in a way that “can’t be found anywhere else.”

During the three month expedition, which begins on December 5, the specially selected team will embark on a variety of polar themed adventures.

These include climbing frozen waterfalls, diving beneath frozen lakes, experiencing a Finish Christmas and hunting for the elusive and striking aurora borealis.

As well as having the ability to speak fluent English, entrants are required to have previous outdoors experience, good physical condition and an “open mind” that can deal with the challenges that lay ahead.

If chosen, they will also be expected to share their experience though video and imagery via social media.

The adventure will be lead by Pasi Ikonen, a former athlete who in 2008 completed an unsupported expedition to the South Pole.

The winner will receive round-trip tickets to Finland and back, accommodation, transport, activities and meals.

But there is a catch for any Kiwis wishing to try their chances on winning the adventure. People outside of the UK, Japan, South-Korea, China, Germany would have to make their own way to one of the airports from which Finnish Air flies.

The competition runs until October 19.
